As I happened to start the biblical merge with some tree entered by non-Jews, most of the profiles are managed by them. The music drums, the wedding guests cluster instinctively in the center of the hall beneath the chandelier, smiles grown wider, two women clapping their hands softly, a few tapping toes to the music’s rhythm, a girl pulling at her skirt awkwardly, a woman clasping her hands in front of her sucked in stomach.

The 1780s saw the publication of the first Hasidic books. Counter to religious thinkers such as Karl Barth and Emmanuel Lévinas, Buber argues that God is not simply a wholly transcendent other, but also wholly same, closer to each person than his or her own self. Some women also venture outside, with their husbands or individually, to experience life outside the community. Hasidism as a movement was associated almost exclusively with the lands of the Commonwealth of Poland.

The first hasidic compositions - the books of Rabbi Jacob Joseph of Polonoye, colleague and disciple of the Baal Shem Tov, founder of Hasidism - consist of intellectual discourses. In the system of Ḥabad the ẓaddiḳ appears more as a teacher than a miracle-worker. They claim to be from Flatbush and want another Orthodox Jewish woman to join them for sex. "I know of swingers in the ultra orthodox community, which shocked me to hear it … just the way it would shock anybody else," said "Yossi" of Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

Much every way: chiefly, because that unto them were committed the oracles of God."

Many within Modern Orthodox Judaism, however, do not have a problem with historical scholarship in this area. The man’s peyos, or side curls, fall to his jaw below a round fur hat, called a shtreimel. Some people believe Rabbi Carlebach’s influence extended beyond music, claiming the Dancing Rabbi’s legacy transcended his tunes and melodies to include, among other things, books inspired by his teachings. Many of the former Hasidim I interviewed started using the Internet innocently, with no intention of ever leaving the community.
