It appears to be closely based on his time with the 1/13th Battalion of the London Regiment (Kensington) from early July 1916 until September 1918. I first read this book as a teenager, and would highly recommend it to people of any age. In addition, it is difficult to explain the fact that mocked the body by cutting off the penis only limited, not cut off other more accessible parts of the body, say, fingers, nose, ears, etc. The Christmas message sounds as mockery to a world at war, but those of us who wished and still wish for peace may surely offer a solemn greeting to those of you who feel as we do.
